Early Treatment
It’s not always easy to tell if your child has an orthodontic problem. Straight teeth alone is not necessarily an indicator that all is developing well. Signs that your child may require orthodontic treatment include:
- Early/late loss of baby teeth
- Difficulty in chewing/biting
- Thumb sucking
- Crowded/blocked out teeth
- Upper and lower teeth that don’t meet, or bite in an unusual way
- Protruding teeth
Early intervention is an orthodontic method which works with your child’s facial growth and tooth eruption to decrease the severity of a problem, and help make sure that future treatment will be simpler, with a better aesthetic outcome.
Many orthodontic problems are easier to correct if detected at an early age, before jaw growth has slowed. Early treatment is aimed at ensuring the adult teeth erupt in better positions, and can also reduce damage to the teeth due to a crooked positioning. For example, prominent teeth can easily be bumped, and teeth rubbing against other teeth can quickly become worn.
