Dr Jean Brennan

Hello and a very warm welcome to Hornsby Orthodontics. As the sole orthodontist at Hornsby Orthodontics, Dr Brennan leads our team in delivering highly specialised, personalised care. We are a friendly, dedicated team here to make your orthodontic journey a rewarding and positive experience.

Originally from Kilkenny in the southeast of Ireland, Dr Brennan completed her dental degree at the University of Sheffield, one of Europe’s premier dental schools. After working as a family dentist, she embarked on the challenging journey to specialise in orthodontics, undergoing 12 years of postgraduate examinations and clinically supervised training across diverse settings, including intensive experience in Oral & Head and Neck Surgery. This distinctive background equips her with a comprehensive understanding of facial aesthetics, proportion, functional harmony, and the broader role of orthodontics in systemic health, allowing her to provide patients with a uniquely holistic approach to care.

Jean has a deep passion and exceptional skill for treating young and teenage patients, informed by her extensive professional expertise and her compassionate perspective as a mum, currently treating her own son. While experienced with patients of all ages and complexities, she is especially dedicated to supporting the growth and development of young patients. Dr Brennan uses gentle, effective treatment methods and applies interceptive techniques when needed, carefully selecting the best appliances to meet each child’s needs.

Committed to preserving natural dental structure, Dr Brennan actively avoids extractions whenever possible and harnesses the natural growth of the orofacial structure to achieve beautifully balanced outcomes. Her approach is both practical and efficient, avoiding excessively long treatment plans, multiple costly steps, and the risk of young patient burnout from early, overextended care. With a foundation of rigorous academic research, she designs well-timed, effective treatment plans that respect each child’s unique developmental needs. This thoughtful approach ensures optimal outcomes while reducing unnecessary complexity or strain on young patients and their families.

Internationally recognised, Dr Brennan gained Fellowship and Membership qualifications through examination with the Royal College of Surgeons (London), Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians (Glasgow), and Royal College of Surgeons (Ireland). She earned her Masters in Dental Science with Distinction, was honoured with the British Orthodontic Society Award for Best Postgraduate Research, and has lectured globally to advance orthodontics. Deeply committed to service, Jean  provides pro bono care locally and participates annually in missions to Timor-Leste, delivering essential orthodontic treatment for patients with cleft lip and palate in this developing nation.
