Specialist Orthodontist

Peter grew up in Wahroonga and was educated at St Aloysius’ College.  He graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery and this was followed by over ten years’ experience in general dentistry in rural Australia and overseas.  This time in general practice allowed the development of extensive knowledge, skill and management of the complexities of comprehensive dental health care.  He then returned to the University of Sydney to further his passion for orthodontics and achieve specialist qualifications.  Here he excelled in both clinical practice and research and was awarded the prizes for the most outstanding treated clinical cases and most meritorious research, for New South Wales and later for all of Australia.  Since graduating Peter has been awarded the John Reading Prize for best clinical case by a specialist on multiple occasions.  He and his wife have four children and again live locally in Wahroonga.

Peter is committed to orthodontic excellence not only in his practices but within the profession.  He has always been active in specialist dental education and has tutored orthodontics in the post-graduate specialist training for over a decade, as well as lecturing to specialists in Australia and overseas.  He has held many professional positions including the President of the Australian Society of Orthodontics (NSW Branch), President of the University of Sydney Orthodontic Alumni, Chairman of the Visiting Orthodontic Professorial Program at the University of Sydney and on the Australian Dental Board’s Expert Reference Group for Specialists.

Currently, Peter is the President of the Australian Society of Orthodontists.  He also remains after a decade the President and Treasurer of the University of Sydney Orthodontic Trust that aids in the funding of academic staff.  He has further involvement in the profession in the accreditation of specialist training programs, as well as having acted as external examiner for the assessment of potential graduating specialists.  For the past two decades Peter has coordinated the local dental community as convener and treasurer of the North Shore Dental Study Group.

Peter is a member of the Australian Society of Orthodontists, World Federation of Orthodontists, American Association of Orthodontists, the European Orthodontic Society, the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and the Australian Dental Association and also a fellow of the International College of Dentistry and the Pierre Frauchard Academy. Peter is a Give a Smile™ Orthodontist supporting pro bono treatment of the disadvantaged and also aids the Yalari Aboriginal Foundation with the care of rural children.

Further to his involvement in professional bodies, Peter is highly motivated and attends conferences regularly to keep his clinical skills at the cutting edge.  Peter’s expertise lies in the treatment of difficult and complicated interdisciplinary cases including surgical care where he acts as a tertiary referral orthodontist for a number of other specialists.  He brings considerable enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to Hornsby Orthodontics.
